Visual Effects

Since 2007, UMM Studios has been creating stunning visual effects and digital Character animation, beginning with seamless invisible effects and developing an expertise in emotive CG characters and creatures for live action, all CG animated and hybrid live-action/animation productions. We are a community of innovative digital artists and technologists who collaborate creatively with film-makers, helping them to bring their vision to the screen to the delight of audiences around the globe.

Achieving photo-real integration requires an eye for the subtle nuance of hue and gamma levels of composited elements. Sometimes it takes an intuitive understanding of the physics of photo optics: the way a backlight blends around the edges of the foreground element, the addtition of lens distortion and artifacting, the subtle imperfections that tell our mind that we are looking at real-life-even when we are not. Using proprietary 2D and 3D tracking methodologies, as well as advanced matting and compositing techniques, we painstakingly assure that the viewer will believe that the product of the computer belongs seamlessly in the same frame with the product of the lens. At umm, with our strong technical skills and with the use of Nuke/Fusion/After effects pipeline integrated with C4D and maya helps us produce photo realistic imagery.

We at umm, have been providing Visual effect services since 2007. We have worked in a number of Tamil, Malayalam, English features.

Thambi Arjuna

In this film, apart from VFX Supervision by Supervisors at UMM, more than 250 shots were planned and executed at UMM' post production suite. We had to process various challenging shots such as Full Cg environment of Chennai City, aeroplane flying shots, bullet-time fx and sequences, wire-removals, and a successfull day to night conversion was achieved for a stunning 225 shots which also included Cg elements like fire, debris etc. Our strong Cinema4d/Nuke and Cinema4D/after efects pipeline helped us achieve the shots.

The original movie was in telugu and it was partly remade and partly dubbed to Tamil. UMM Studio' Cg team worked on many shots, converting the buildings, number plates and other minute detail to those of Chennai city. Almost all the number plates were tracked and were replaced with chennai'. Also the buildings in many shots were then matte painted and converted to those of chennai. Using proprietary 2D and 3D tracking methodologies,we were able to achieve majority of the shots

This hollywood style movie had many challenging shots which were successfully done at our production suite. It included shots such as full Cg environment creation which were then composited using Nuke. Also Rotoscoping were done in many frames which was then composited with full CG background to produce photo realistic effects. Cinema4D' pyrocluster technology helped us solve the particle problems such as fire, smoke etc. We had to work on almost all shots without compromising the director' style and also without compromising the emotions performed by the actors in the frames.

The movie included challenging shots such as to make a river into a dired one and back with flowing water. Our strong matte painting techniques helped us achieve the shot succesfully. Also Cg elements such as dust, fire were integrated into a number of shots. Content replacement were done in the frames such as rubbing off the existing content and tracking and replacing with CG content. These works were well recognised in Tamil film industry.
